Diwali in a Dash

Posted last November 7, 2012, 1:26 am in Food report article

“The aim of the demo was to show the audience that traditional sweetmeats can be prepared quickly, with the use of a microwave and a gas stove without losing any of the flavour” said Ramola Makan, ELBA representative and author of several microwave and Indian cookbooks.  Among the delectable sweetmeats prepared were Barfi, Pistachio & Cashew Soji and a Sesame & Pine Nut Phyllo parcels.  Ramola also introduced a twist on old favourites by suggesting to add a generous amount of red food colouring to the Barfi mixture, shaping it into strawberry moulds and rolling it in roasted sesame seeds.  “Using the microwave while cooking your traditional sweetmeats is the perfect way to keep with tradition, while saving time in the kitchen, and with the amazing range of microwaves available at Hirsch’s there is no excuse for spending too much time preparing for Diwali.  The audience actively participated in the demo, asking questions and learning new tricks about microwave cooking.
